Online ID service in September to reduce hassles

UAE authorities are pushing ahead with a project to introduce online services to applicants seeking to register with the national identity without the need to visit the printing centre, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The new service by the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) will be launched on a trial basis in September before it becomes fully operational in the following months, the Sharjah-based Arabic language Alkhaleej newspaper said, quoting EIDA director general Ali Mohammed Al Khouri.

“The online application service will start in September on a trial basis and it will allow applicants to fill ID forms online,” he said.

“Applicants should be careful when filling forms online as making errors twice could result in the rejection of the application…they should be accurate and ensure all data entered online are compatible with the other documents.”

Khouri said the new service would cut fees paid by applicants by nearly 40 per cent as they will not be required to pay up to Dh70 in fees for registration.

The service will also allow applicants for a new card or renewal to pay by E-card and enquire about their applications online.
Khouri said existing authorized registration centres would remain in operation for those who do not wish to have their applications processed online.

“This is a strategic move as the new service is expected to largely increase the rate of registration…applicants will be able to register online at their homes or offices without having to wait for long periods at registration centres.”
