More than 3,000 school children from across the UAE are expected to enter the Al Reyami IDEA 2012 UAE Open Talent Search Contest, which will take place at the Abu Dhabi Indian School campus in Abu Dhabi on May 18, 2012.

The fifth edition of the Innovative Development Centre for Educational Aptitude's (IDEA) highly popular Annual Talent Contest was officially launched, in association with The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT).

The contest, open to primary and high school students, will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Board of the CERT Group of Companies.

IDEA, an Abu Dhabi based non-profit voluntary organization, with a mission to nurture creativity and talents in students, created the contest to search for budding talent and to recognize outstanding performers in the categories of Quiz, Elocution, Creative Arts and Poetry Writing competitions.

Participation in the IDEA Open Talent Search Contest is free and open to students in Grades 1 to 12, attending schools across the UAE.

"The IDEA Talent Contest provides an unparalleled platform for students to participate and demonstrate their aptitude-based skills, creativity and talents, and achieve recognition. CERT, the research and training arm of the Higher Colleges of Technology, encourages the active participation of students in such programmes to help unearth the hidden potential in the youth," Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Group Chief Executive of CERT said.

"Youngsters have both in-born and developed talents, but opportunities to showcase their amazing prowess can be limited and this is where IDEA's Open Talent Search Contest fills that vacuum," added Dr. Kamali.

On May 18, 2012, the Talent Contest will see the Poetry Writing and Creative Arts competitions being held from 9am; the Elocution competition start from 1:30 pm and the Quiz competition start from 3:30 pm.

The Quiz Contest will be conducted in two rounds, with the first round being a pre-qualification round for all participants. In the second round, the four top-scoring participants from the pre-qualification rounds of junior and senior levels will qualify for a 'live' Quiz Contest, to be conducted at 5:30 pm.

To ensure fairness for all competitors, the topics will be announced at the time of the respective competitions. Elaborate arrangements have been planned by the Contest organizers to conduct the competitions in the H.H. Sheikh Zayed Auditorium and class rooms at the sprawling Abu Dhabi Indian School campus.

"We believe the Open Talent Contest offers a unique opportunity for UAE-based students to share a common ground for presenting their skills in a multi-national competitive environment. Competitions such as these greatly develop the minds of youngsters and engage them in creativity and innovation, which will help raise their competency and confidence levels," K. Sathianathan, President of IDEA said.

"IDEA's last edition of its Talent Contest attracted 3,000 students representing 69 schools and 24 nationalities from across the UAE. Given the enthusiasm displayed by the students, parents and teachers, we anticipate a higher turn-out of participants this time," Sathianathan said.

Awards will be presented to the winners in five categories (first, second, third position winners and 2 consolation prizes) at an Award Presentation function at 7:30 pm on May 18 at the Abu Dhabi Indian School. All participating students will receive Certificates of Participation.

The UAE Open Talent Search Contest is powered by Al Reyami Group, Musandam Group, Metro Contracting and Global Printing.
