Paid parking permits in Tecom postponed to April 13

Motorists of the three Tecom localities – Media City, Knowledge Village and the Internet City – get another month of free parking.

The introduction of parking permits has been postponed to April 13, 2013.

Abdel Mohammed Al Marzooqi, Director, Parking Department, Road and Transport Authority (RTA), announced this on the sidelines of the Gulf Traffic Week conference held on Tuesday at the RTA headquarters.

Parking permits were initially scheduled to be issued from March 17.

Currently there are several sandpits used as parking lots in the area. This is not safe.

“Tecom has planned to pave a 3-4 of the plots," he added.

In fact, paid parking zones in Tecom have been a much debated topic because motorists find easy parking spaces.

Hundereds of students of Knowledge Village will have to reconsider their parking options once the rule becomes effective.

It is likely universities may apply for certain number of parking places and students apply for these lots at a discounted price.
