Some 2,800 Pakistani convicts serving time in UAE jails will be sent back to their country to serve the remainder of their terms under a prisoner swap agreement.

Pakistan's newly appointed ambassador to the UAE Jamil Khan said this follows the agreement signed between the two countries, reported The National.

The ambassador was quoted as saying "there is a spectrum of prisoners who had committed petty to serious crimes".

He said the exchange will be first step to boost ties between the two countries and highlighted Pakistan deep-rooted and time-tested relahionship with the UAE.
