Ways of promoting traffic safety across the Emirate of Sharjah were the main focus of a meeting held by representatives of the Infrastructure Development Ministry and the Sharjah Police General Command at the ministry's premises in Dubai recently.

The meeting occasioned a review of the recommendations and remarks made over the past period to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow following the traffic diversions caused by the ongoing projects in the emirate.

The two sides have agreed to form a joint team to come up with efficient solutions to reduce traffic accidents to the lowest possible levels over the coming three years.

"The Ministry is sparing no efforts in collaboration with its strategic partners to raise the bar for safety levels for the greater good of the homeland," said Engineer Mohammed Hassan Al Shenasi, Deputy Director of the Roads Department at the ministry.

He highlighted the different initiatives launched by the ministry to reduce traffic casualties on high-risk roads in line with the UAE Vision 2021, noting that the traffic safety schemes rolled out by the ministry lately are set to topple the traffic fatalities rate to 3 per each 100,000 persons by the year 2021.
