Police bring an end to Dubai's Fast and Furious road racers: 3 held

Dubai Traffic Police have seized a number of cars for recklessly racing in a dangerous manner on public roads.

The Dubai police have also arrested three drivers, their ages ranging between 19 and 22.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, Director General of Dubai Traffic Police said the reckless young drivers were performing dangerous road stunts and endangering the lives of other road users.

He added that they insisted on ignoring the law and challenge the police when confronted.

He pointed out that some of the reckless young drivers have previous records.

He was quoted by Emarat Al Youm as saying: “A lack of strictness from some of the parents is encouraging them to repeat their deadly mistakes.”

Al Khawaneej to Mirdif

Major General Al Zaffin said the Dubai Police acted immediately after receiving reports that some drivers were driving their cars in a dangerous manner and obstructing traffic.

He added that the drivers were racing on Al Khawaneej Road, coming from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

He added the cars were racing side-by-even and after the Mirdif bridge, exposing drivers of the other vehicles to extremely dangerous conditions.

Dark street racers

In a separate case, Maj Gen Al Zaffin said that a traffic patrol spotted during two vehicles on a dark street in of Al Mawaslat, preparing for a race.

He also pointed out that when the patrol tried to stop them the driver of the second vehicle escape at high speed, though the patrol recorded the number plate of the car.
