Probation without contract punishable

Hiring workers employed by another sponsor without following sponsorship transfer procedures is a crime punishable by law, said a top official.

Counsellor Ali Humaid Bin Khatim, Head, Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution, Dubai, said any person caught working for another organisation, even during probationary period without contract, is a crime. People caught working for another organization even for a short time period, will be considered as working for that employer despite no contract being signed, reported Al Bayan.

Khatim recalled an incident where Labour Ministry officials discovered a violation in Ras Al Khor, wherein an employer had hired five workers who were under another sponsor.

The Court of First Instance sentenced the workers to be deported after serving their jail terms, while the employer was reportedly fined for employing three of the five workers. The employer was acquitted of charges of hiring the other two workers because the latter confessed to working for that employer, the report added.
