Abu Dhabi authorities have reasserted terms for registration of expatriate students in government schools in the emirate, including the 20 per cent ceiling and an annual fee of Dh6,000.

The Abu Dhabi education council said all schools in the capital, the eastern oasis town of Al Ain and other parts of the emirate must comply with those terms in registration of foreign students for the next scholar year.

“Schools must abide by the 20 per cent ceiling for expatriate students…the number of expatriate students in one class must also not exceed 25 in primary classes and 30 in secondary classes,” it said after a meeting on Monday.

It urged school management to help parents seeking to register their children in public school for the next scholastic period, adding that the registration period will expire on April 28. “You should deal with those parents in a civilized manner even with those whose children are not accepted in schools,” it said.

The council stressed that schools must first ensure all national students are registered before embarking on the registration of any more expatriates.

As for payment of fees by expatriates, the council said it was working on a new mechanism for such payments, including though mobile text messages.
