Public urged to call ‘999’ only in emergencies

Lieutenant Zayed Mohammed, head of monitoring and analysis in the command and control centre of Dubai Police, has appealed to the public not to call 999 except in emergencies. 

They should call 901 for enquires about services provided by Dubai Police, he added.

Meanwhile, Dubai Police’s command and control centre received 21,666 phone calls during the Eid Al Adha holidays, according to Colonel Ahmed Shuhail, director of the operations room.

471 of them were mistaken calls, 218 were of the nature of misuse and 2,088 were for enquiry. 105 calls were diverted to the call centre at 901.

703 of the calls were about traffic accidents, ranging from minor to serious.

A total of 19,138 phone calls were received by the Dubai Police’s operations room during last year’s Eid Al Adha holidays.  2,785 were enquiry calls, 908 of them were by mistake, 359 of the nature of misuse and 1,834 of them were about road accidents.
