Rain in Dubai slows morning traffic; weather makes seas a no-go

Residents of the UAE woke up to more wet weather this Monday morning, with reports coming in of a heavy downpour in parts of Dubai.

Several residents have reported light to medium rainfall in parts of The Palm Jumeirah, Motor City and Arabian Ranches neighbourhoods, while Bur Dubai and Deira remained dry.

Sandeep Chopra  tweeted: “Just love the way it sometimes rains in Dubai. Driving in such romantic weather is sheer joy and pure bliss.”

Nicholas Brooks said: “Dubai Marina enjoying the rain band. All dry after Mall of the Emirates.”

Susan Henry asked: “Since when does it rain so much in Dubai?”

Authorities are requesting drivers to proceed with caution, with reports coming in that traffic is at a standstill on Sheikh Zayed Road outside Al Safa Park heading towards Jebel Ali; while another sticky spot is reportedly the Dubai Investments Park circle this morning.

The NCMS has reiterated its previous cautions and warnings to mariners in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, due to the current weather affecting the seas.

The centre said that there will be rain clouds and fresh to strong winds causing blowing dust/sand reducing visibility to less than 1000 metres. It also forecast fresh to strong north westerly winds, rain, thundery clouds and wave heights of six to eight feet.

Meanwhile, there is to be no let-up in the wet and cold spell for Dubai today as well. With slick roads and reduced visibility, all traffic warnings remain in place.

Dubai and Sharjah woke up to a steady Sunday morning drizzle, leaving the roads slick, traffic slow and the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology’s wet and cold forecast in place.

The above video which was posted by the NCMS shows how the recent wet spell has created waterfalls in the mountains of Ras Al Khamiah.

While low visibility and wet road warnings put out over the weekend by the police will more than hold true for this morning, a drop in temperatures suggests that with schools having just reopened, advice to stay warm might be well heeded.

The NCMS forecast a minimum temperature of 12 Celsius in the coastal areas, 8 Celsius in the internal and 5 Celsius in the mountainous areas.

On Saturday, the NCMS had forecast that the UAE will witness yet another period of unstable weather.

Cloud amounts will gradually increase especially over Islands, coasts and northern areas with chance of rainfall, especially during the night, reports NCMS.

Visibility is likely to be reduced with fresh winds blowing up dust.

Sea will be rough over the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea and authorities have warned beach goers to exercise caution.

Motorists are also urged to abide by traffic rules and be safe.

Rains lash Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday witnessed the intermittent heavy rains, causing cold weather as the temperature dropped. The rains filled the valleys in the mountainous areas.

The sky is still overcast with clouds, as more rains are expected in the next hours.
