The maritime team of Ras Al Khaimah police conducted 24 operations in the first seven months of this year to rescue drowning people and other maritime operations.

Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, Director General of Central Operations at RAK Police, said the maritime rescue unit has three naval patrols – morning, evening and night – to ensure safety of its shores and to respond to any emergency call for help.

He said the programme is aimed at carrying out operations to rescue people from drowning at sea as large number of people frequently visit the emirate’s beaches and spend quite some time there. The team has carried out 1,260 hours of rescue operations till now.

Ahmed Ghanem said the unit also launched awareness campaigns and alerts to all members of the public about safe swimming.

He advised the public to carry safety euipment with them when they go for swimming in  the sea.
