The fifth edition of the annual RAK Terry Fox Run, held on Friday February 28, drew more than 3,000 participants. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, at the Al Qawasim Corniche in Ras Al Khaimah, the charity event was an incredible success.

His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saud Al Qasimi, Ross Miller, Consul General of Canada, Maryam Al Shamsi, Associate Professor, UAE University, and VIPs from the government authorities were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Cleo Eleazar, PR and Events Manager at Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone Authority (RAK FTZ), and Committee Member of RAK Terry Fox Run, said, “We are thrilled to see that the event has grown in strength year-on-year, and the contribution has also grown each year. For an event that has been running for the last five years purely organised by a set of volunteers, the charity run has been a great feat!”

On Friday, people of all ages and nationalities came out for the run, which supports cancer research in the UAE. Sheikh Saud started off the run by firing the starting horn. The run was set on two 5km and 3km tracks.

The charity run this year collected Dh149,143.50, which will be donated to the UAE University in Al Ain for continuing Terry Fox funded cancer research projects.

Rina Gauer, Committee Member of RAK Terry Fox Run, added, “It is amazing to see so many people turn out on a holiday to support a charity event. Ras Al Khaimah is a close-knit community and we would like to dedicate the success of this event to the ‘big heart’ of the city.”

Some of the big donors of this year’s run were RAK FTZ, RAK Municipality, RAK Precast, Streit Group, RAKIA and RAK Ceramic.
