Rectify job titles for family visas: ministry

The Ministry of Labour has said that companies must ensure their workers are in the right wage bracket and carried the correct job titles if they want to bring their families.
Rejecting an application filed by a company to change the title of several of its workers who intend bringing their families, the ministry said they were within the 57 categories that did not have the privilege, Arabic language daily Al Bayan reported.
The request was taken up at a meeting of a special committee on labour affairs attended by Khalil Khouri, director of work permits and Saleh Al Jabri, director of unit facilities in Abu Dhabi.
On the issue of temporary work permits, the committee clarified that workers being thus allowed should have completed one year with the original sponsor and have valid residence visa. It is also mandatory for his present and future sponsors have valid trade licences. The topic came up while rejecting a company’s request to allow a labourer to temporarily work for it since the case did not meet the criteria.
In such cases, the committee pointed out, the temporary work permit must not exceed six months and cannot be more than two such contract periods in three years.
The ministry can however make exemptions in the one-year rule in cases of workers not receiving at least two months’ wages from their original sponsor.
