Dubai Police has sent an arrest and extradition request for Haitham bin Mahmoud bin Shukri Malik, a Saudi citizen, to Lebanon.

Haitham had fled the UAE after duping 78 residents of Dh5.8 million when he rented out flats that did not belong to him.

Dubai Police is working closely with its counterparts in Lebanon to get the accused arrested. The UAE had earlier issued an Interpol arrest warrant for him.

Under the agreement signed between the UAE and the Lebanese government, several arrested suspects have so far been handed over to the UAE authorities, a source revealed.

According to the numbers released by the Dubai Police, about 362 suspects were extradited to the UAE in 2011 after Interpol arrest warrants were released. The number of suspects handed over to the UAE authorities were 325 in 2010.

The UAE also handed over 41 wanted criminals to the Interpol in 2011.

The suspects are received and handed over according to the rules of International Convention that has been signed by the signatory states.
