Residents warned against fake mobile messages for obesity, impotency

UAE health authorities on Wednesday warned against over fake advertisements sent through SMS and emails promoting cure for obesity, sexual impotency and other diseases.

Among the false promotions are text messages promoting products for overweight, skin whitening, intravenous injections, products for increasing sexual capabilities and other similar products.

The Ministry of Health has called upon the public not to respond to health and beauty products being advertised on such promotions and instead alert them and register complaints against agencies distributing these products.

“Some people advertise for overweight healthy products and other medicines that treat certain diseases or increase sexual abilities through BlackBerry. Therefore, we contacted the specialised authorities to take the necessary precautions as they violate all health rules and form dangers to the society”, said Dr Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licenses.

He also warned that the health advertisement department has been monitoring advertisements by unlicensed agencies promoting therapeutic medicines.

He noted that the department in cooperation with the pharmaceutical and drug administration and medical licenses department will investigate any complaints received from the public with regard to such unlicensed advertisements.
