Showroom manager Roxana Petrisor gives us a lowdown on the funky collection at 2Crazy Dubai

There’s no denying that women are crazy about shoes, but one store in Dubai is taking that craziness to a whole new level.

You can either wear your heels in (real) Ostrich feathers, or glittery Swarovski crystals, pokey spikes, or a bouquet of roses.

That’s not all, you can even garnish your shoes in delicious candy or cupcake, or give it an edge with coloured Lego blocks.

And, there are a few that’ve been endorsed by celebs like Miley Cyrus, Rihana and Lady Gaga.

So, if you want to be a head turner and feel like a star, then Saima Asim’s quirky shoe store – 2Crazy Dubai – is where you need to head.

True to its name, the store stocks fun, quirky shoes that will transform anyone’s wardrobe.

“Yes, I’m a little crazy,” she laughs out loud. “And I wanted to channel that craziness into something unique. And, this is what I came up with. It was my urge to be different.”

Sourced from across the world from designers who share her “craziness”, Saima’s collection is quite a rare line-up.

“I search all over the world for something unique… something that will catch my attention.

“Of course, we are all into dressing up and accessories, but shoes are one thing that we have almost forgotten. So, that’s why I’m focusing on it. I want to show the world that there’s just so much you can do with it.”

True to her word, her collection of shoes are showstoppers. “You just need to team our shoes with a simple black dress and you are good to go. No other accessories.”

Saima adds that her collection has impressed the Emirati population, giving them the much needed touch of glitz and glamour.

“We have got an amazing response. We’ve got stars to royal families as our customers. Right now, my clientele is most Emirati. I also have many from Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain”. She also has clients from India, Pakistan and Russia as well.

Although it might take a while to adjust one’s sensibilities to the fun designs, Saima insists that her customers come back to try something more daring.

“If someone comes in and they don’t want to buy something really crazy, then they’ll buy a safer pair. And, the next month they will go one notch higher. So, we are sorting of widening their horizons. Opening up their minds towards the craziness.”

She has even introduced an exclusive line for men, that’s a bit subdued compared to the rest of the canvas, but that’s going to change due to public demand.

“I thought let’s just start with something safer with the guys and look at neons. See how they take it. But, they want spikes, LED lights, colours.”

There’s even a collection for kids that she’s planning. “A lot of Emirati mothers want identical shoes for their kids. So, they want miniature ones like theirs for their children. Maybe not the heels, but something equally crazy for the kids.”

Opening her store at the Sunset Mall in Jumeriah was a planned decision, she tells, “I wanted to be here because it brings quality clients.

Saima is quite confident that her collection, that ranges between Dh400 and Dh25,000, will continue to turn heads.

And, what’s most interesting is that these shoes, not matter how outrageous they look, are high on comfort.

“Whatever shoes we pick out, go through a testing segment. We look at quality, durability to the practicality. It might look uncomfortable…

Born and brought up in Dubai, Saima claims she was always passionate about fashion, but she never thought it would pan out into a career.

Judging by her success story now, she’s clearly changing the way Dubai is looking at their shoes.
