Sharjah witnessed two deaths in separate traffic-related accidents over the weekend.

A three-year-old child lost his life on Saturday evening as he came under the wheels of a car that was reversing.

Also, a 38-year-old man drowned to death when his car crashed into Lake Khalid, according to Al Ittihad newspaper.

The Sudanese boy Abdul Rahman was allegedly playing with a group of children near his building when a car that was reversing ran into him, killing him on the spot, according to Sharjah Police.

The Indian driver of the car has been arrested, and the child's father is being questioned.

The body of the child has been transferred to Kuwaiti Hospital.

In the second incident, a Filipino who had apparently driven his car under the influence of alcohol was killed after his vehicle hit the pavement and plunged into Khalid Lake in Sharjah, press reports said on Sunday.

The 38-year-old man was seen driving his car at high speed when it hit the sidewalk and plunged into the water on Friday night, Alittihad daily said.
