The Interior Ministry of the UAE has launched a traffic awareness campaign aimed to raise awareness about safety on the roads while motorcycling.

Statistics from the ministry showed that of 210 accidents were recorded in 2013, resulting in the death of 16 people and injuring 235.

The  ministry stated the accidents were a result of a lack of commitment to traffic rules and police regulations.

The campaign aims to educate all motorcyclists, across all segments of society, particularly youth, to abide by the traffic rules.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Directorate of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, said that the strategic plan for the traffic sector for the year 2014 - 2016, includes 24 traffic campaigns to promote traffic safety and reduce accidents.

He stressed the need for mobike users to wear helmets and for families to ensure youth do not break any traffic rules.
