Road deaths caused by women drivers double in Dubai

The number of women drivers who caused fatal accidents increased in 2013 compared to that of the previous year, according to the latest statistics released by the Traffic Department of Dubai Police.

There were 12 deaths reported last year as against five traffic deaths in 2012 – a 140 per cent rise in mortalities caused by women drivers and seven per cent of the total traffic deaths.

The total traffic deaths in Dubai were 161 in 2013 as against 123 in 2012.

The number of accidents caused by women drivers last year were 175 as against 144 in 2012 – up by 21 per cent.

Women drivers also injured 275 people last year, the statistics revealed. Of them, 13 were seriously injured; 76 suffered moderate injuries and 176 people escaped with mild injuries.

The total number of traffic-related injuries also jumped from 2,470 in 2012 to 2,504 last year.
