Preparations are on at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for the upcoming Unified GCC Traffic Week 2014, which runs from March 9-14, featuring participation from the Ministry of Interior and traffic directorates/departments of the GCC states.

Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Authority Agency, underscored the importance of this traffic event that prompts traffic sectors to showcase their best services to road users, along with their efforts to upgrade traffic movement-related systems and procedures and improving traffic safety levels.

“We have started our preparations early for the Gulf Traffic Week early on by designing a programme targeting most community segments in the emirate of Dubai. We have strived to diversify the means of communication with the public via awareness flashes in cinemas, and cash counters in retail cooperative societies, shopping centres and RTA’s e-messaging signs. We have also worked on organising extensive awareness events targeting families in hospitals and medical centres, RTA’s public bus drivers and youths in some sports clubs in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council,” said Maitha.

The CEO of Traffic & Roads Agency added, “The Agency would continue capitalising on technology in disseminating awareness messages, which the Agency has been doing over the past few months and will still focus on during the forthcoming Gulf Traffic Week. The Traffic Department has prepared a great deal of information, guidance and awareness movies which will be disseminated via social networking sites of the RTA and its partners for the benefit of the largest possible number of visitors and road users. The Agency will also distribute child car seats in some new mums-oriented events, in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority and as part of "Generations Safety is Shared Responsibility" initiative.”

Maitha bin Udai further added that the Agency has prepared a reception for the GCC delegates who will review RTA’s model and its contribution to reducing traffic deaths and injury rates, besides familiarising them with RTA’s smart systems and modern procedures adopted to improve the traffic safety levels. “The reception party to be held in RTA premises will not only be dedicated to honouring awareness teams, but will also include decorating students winning the traffic safety quizzes and partners of the Agency winning the Generations Safety is Shared Responsibility initiative,” she continued.

“These events will reflect the core goal of the traffic measures and procedures in place. Some events will therefore be focused on transforming the community’s perception of traffic rules, and boosting the positive profile of traffic institutions always aimed at protecting road security and providing safety to all. Supervisors of awareness teams in the agency will be deployed in a number of schools in Dubai to contribute to the success of several awareness events at schools underscoring the importance of traffic rules and potential risks posed to the community as a result of reckless driving and misuse of the vehicle or road,” explained Maitha.

The CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency called on community members to cooperate for the success of Gulf Traffic Week events through taking part in the events held by the concerned bodies, besides cooperating with the traffic enforcement personnel, and continuously observe proper traffic behaviour.
