The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a mechanic at RTA to three years in jail and Dh1,000 fine for seeking and accepting bribes to pass car coming up for testing.

The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered JTD, 38, Indian, to pay afine of Dh1,000 and be deported after completion of the jail term.

His accomplice  AAM, 35, Pakistani, who was mediating between him and motorists for Dh50, also received the same sentence.

BRK, 40, Pakistani, driver was sentenced to one year in jail followed by deportation for offering Dh250  as bribe to a public servant.

According to the records, Corporal Fahed Abdulrahman testified that police received a tip-off about AAM, who managed to get cars with mechanical defects passed through Warsan Tasjeel Station against money he shared with a mechanic at the station.

Police trapped AAM and asked him to pass a Toyota Corolla that had failed a previous test.

AAM asked for Dh300. The police informer agreed with AAM. BRK paid Dh300 for passing the vehicle.

AAM drove the car of the police informer and that of BRK to the test lane where JTD works.

The two cars were passed, and both the informer and the other car's driver went to AAM and paid him Dh300 each.

Policemen then raided the place and arrested the accused.

AAM confessed that he had been getting cars passed for the past five months in coordination with JTD.

JTD admitted knowing AAM but denied passing cars against money.
