The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai announced that about 124,466 individuals had downloaded the Smart Parking App during the first half of 2015, and the number of transactions made through the App during the same period had hit 283,703 transactions.

The figures underline RTA's keenness to introduce smart services coherent with the Dubai Government's drive to transform the Emirate into the smartest city in the world in three years, and in line with the government’s Smart City initiative.

"Transactions of the Smart Parking App have almost touched 284 thousand transactions comprising 261,126 e-parking tickets via smart phones, 22,577 transactions of recharging the parking wallet, and 124,500 downloads on smart phones. Such figures reflect that the App has lived up to its billing in fulfilling customer needs, given the rising public need for user-friendly technological means in handling parking services," said Adel Al Marzooki, Director of Parking, RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

"The Smart Parking App provides a host of services that save the time and effort of the public, given the importance of parking in the growing daily mobility of Dubai residents and visitors. Features of the App include the automatic identification of the parking Zone Code along with a map displaying paid parking zones in Dubai. It also enables the selection of a parking to figure out its Zone Code, payment of parking fees through credit cards without incurring or debiting additional service charges, and the payment of parking fees through text messages. The App can also indicate vacant parking slots within the multi-level parking terminals of RTA as well as the parking lots of the Dubai Mall, and indicate vacant parking slots designated for the use of the disabled in the multi-level parking facilities.

"The App can also enable the payment of parking fares in respect of vehicles bearing plates of other Emirates without requiring them to be registered in the service. It can also list previously used e-tickets, and offer automatic alerts notifying customers about free parking during public holidays," continued Al Marzooki.

"RTA is committed to realizing its first strategic goal (Smart Dubai), as well as its third strategic goal (Peoples’ Happiness) through offering smart services that save the time and effort of the public and customers. The Smart Parking App is one of RTA’s key service deliverables; which is gaining popularity across a broad spectrum of community members," said the Director of Parking, RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
