RTA staff jailed for taking bribes to cancel fines

An employee of the traffic department, SAA, has been sentenced to two years in jail along with a fine of Dh80,000 for taking bribes to cancel fines from the system, reported 'Gulf Today'.

He took Dh593,860 as bribe to delete the fines totalling Dh1,870,720.

He took half the fine amounts he deleted from the system after receiving a call providing him with the vehicles’ plate numbers, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

He used his colleagues password to access to the traffic systems of Dubai RTA and deleted the fines. 

Two ordered to pay Dh400,000 as diya  
 
In another case, the Traffic Court in Ras Al Khaimah fined two people Dh5,000 each and sentenced them to pay Dh200,000 each as diya to the heirs of the deceased in two different runover accident cases.

The accused had exceeded the speed limits and ignored traffic rules while causing the death of two Asians, reported 'Gulf Today'.
