Russian child drowns in RAK hotel pool

A five-year-old Russian girl drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Ras Al Khaimah and the prosecutor charger her mother and three staff members in the accident.

The prosecutor said her mother would be tried for negligence while the head of security and two rescuers at the hotel would also stand trial for failing to prevent the incident.

The girl was playing with her mother in the hotel’s garden before she sneaked into the swimming pool assigned for adults despite warning signboards saying there were no rescuers for this pool and that swimming would be at one’s responsibility.

The head of security denied responsibility for the child’s death on the grounds her mother should have stopped her from going to that pool which is not manned. He said all the hotel’s 12 rescuers were deployed around other pools assigned for children.

He added that two rescuers did save the girl and called the ambulance, which rushed her to hospital where she stayed for nearly three weeks before she died.

Emirat Alyoum newspaper said the trial for the four would begin on Oct 28.
