Sharjah Educational Zone has decided to shorten the academic hours by about 80 minutes beginning next month as temperatures soar high, reported 'Al Ittihad' newspaper.

Mona Shuhail, Deputy Director of the Sharjah Educational Zone, said the decision was taken after an extensive survey. Schools will, therefore, have 45-minutes periods with five classes per day. At present most schools have seven to eight classes a day with 50-minute periods.
