The dualisation of the 12 km-long Seih Assalam Road has reached 40 per cent and the project is set for opening next December,  Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has announced. The scope of works under this phase extends from Bab Al Shams Hotel and Dubai International Endurance City to the roundabout of the Cycling Rest Point on Al Qudra Road, costing about Dh69 million.

Al Tayer said this during a site tour of the project where he reviewed road construction and lighting works, and the shifting of power cables, water lines and rainwater drainage network. The project encompasses broadening the existing road stretching from Bab Al Shams Hotel and the Dubai International Endurance City to the roundabout of the Cycling Rest Point on Al Qudra Road to a two-lane motorway in each direction.

“Three new R/As will be constructed at intersection points. The scope of works include street lighting, constructing storm-water network, protecting/shifting the existing utility lines in some areas, erecting metal rails for the median to fend off casual U-turns, repainting ground markings, and conserving the existing trees,” said Al Tayer.
“The RTA will shortly undertake Phase II of Seih Assalam Road running 20km from the R/A of the Rest Area of the Cycling Track up to the Dubai – Al Ain Road. Upon the completion of Phase I and II, the project will form a key traffic corridor starting from Dubai International Endurance City up to the R/A of the Rest Area of the Cycling Track, and from there to Dubai – Al Ain Road, or Al Qudra Road; which passes over Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and runs through to Jumeirah,” explained Al Tayer.

RTA completed this year the widening of Al Qudra Road in a sector extending 12km from Jebel Ali-Lehbab junction up to Bab Al Shams R/A, comprising three lanes in each direction at a cost of Dh110 million. Early this year, it opened Al Qudra Road extending from Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road up to Bab Al Shams R/A. The RTA also opened on January 31 the new bridge parallel to the old bridge crossing Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road, diverted the cycling track to the new bridge, and erected a protecting boundary wall separating the cycling track from the road. On March 31, the RTA opened vehicles and camels crossing tunnels on Al Qudra Road.
