Employers, especially those that own factories should send workers with serious and/or contagious diseases back to their countries immediately, a top official from the Ministry of Labour has said.

Aisha Ba Lharfyah, Director, Labour Offices, Department of Labour, told this website: “Employers who brought in a labourer with a contagious illness should take action to have him/her deported before they become danger to the community here.”

The above clarification came during the ministry’s weekly open day meeting, where a factory owner who did not send an infected worker back home, but instead, allowed him to stay for a year. The owner in question asked that the fine levied on him be reduced. His request was denied.

The committee comprised of Abdel Wahab Essa, expert at the department of Labour Offices, Essa Al Zarouni Director, Inspection Department of Dubai and Ahmed Darwish, Deputy Director of Labour Relations.
