Residents of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi who delay in applying for or renewing ID cards will be required to pay fines beginning early next year, announced Emirates Identity Authority (Eida).

Beginning February 1, 2012, people of Sharjah who delay in renewing or applying for ID cards will be fined, while the deadline is April 1 for residents of Abu Dhabi and June 1 for Dubai.

The move is in accordance with Decision No. 25 of 2011 of the Council of Ministers, the authority added.

According to Eida, issuance or renewal of residency visas without ID cards will also incur fines from January 1, 2012. And beginning October 1, even children below five years without ID cards will be required to pay fines.

Fines for Emiratis have been in place since November and for government and semi-government staff from December. So also residents of Northern Emirates who delay in renewing or applying for ID cards are being fined since this month beginning.

Residents who fail to renew ID cards within one month after expiry will be fined Dh20 per day. And those with  expired cards beyond 30 days will be fined a maximum of Dh1,000.

Tha authority has fixed Dh100 estimated fees for issuance and renewal of ID cards for Emiratis and GCC nationals for a period of five years. Dh150 will be the fee for revising data or replacing lost or damaged cards.
