Sharjah fire: 18 suffer smoke inhalation

A massive fire broke out in one of the buildings in Abu Shagara in Sharjah affecting 1t least 18 tenants.

According to a report in Al Khaleej, the civil f was alerted around 11.15pm on Tuesday night that a blaze had broken out on the seventh floor of a 10-storey building in the area.

 A sound was heard just before the fire broke out, the report added. At least 18 residents, including a six-month-old baby, reportedly suffered from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters rushed to the site and shifted tenants to safety. Several people suffered suffocation. Officials immediately cut off power supply to the building to minimize damage.

The firefighters successfully managed to extinguish the blaze before it could spread to neighbouring flats.

The fire was totally controlled by 1am and the cooling operation began.

Sharjah Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
