A fire that broke out in a residential building near Jamal Abdul Naser Street in Sharjah in the early hours of Sunday has also damaged three cars.

According to eye-witness accounts, the blaze that erupted on the seventh floor of the building, which was occupied by an Asian and two African women, was douzed before it proved fatal.

However, three cars were severely damaged as burnt debrsi fell over the vehicles, said an eye-witness.

The blaze broke out at about 3.30am, said witnesses.

“Flat on fire in front of my building, #Majaz 2 area #Sharjah,” tweeted resident Mohamed Elweheshy.

“#Sharjah police was very fast to response, and they saved many people and cars. They were very brave, really thank you,” he added.

When Emirates 24l7 contacted this citizen reporter, he even shared images of the incident.

“I was asleep when my wife woke me up. I immediately rushed to my balcony and started clicking away,” he narrated.

He also dialed 999, and was informed that the civil defence team was on its way.

“Within 10 minutes, the firemen were there. There were four police cars, two ambulances and two cars from the civil defence.”

Mohamed added that after the fire broke out, two explosions occurred, leaving two cars parked below badly damaged.

“After the first explosion, a ball of fire fell down and damaged a car, and the second damaged another.”

He informed that he saw residents rushing out of the building. “They were screaming and shouting and helping their neighbours evacuate the building.”

He wasn’t aware if someone was injured in the fire.

According to initial reports, no cases of casualty has been reported and the building has been evacuated.

The civil defence team was at work and have controlled the situation.

There is still no concrete evidence on what lead to the fire.

This is the second case of building fire in Sharjah. Earlier in April, a residential building in Al Twar was damaged when a fire broke out.

It was later reported that two ladies were held for causing the fire, that had destroyed 10 apartments.
