The government-run Al Qassimi Hopsital in Sharjah is investigating five alleged negligence cases that led to one death at the pediatrics section but none of them involved medical errors, according to the hospital’s executive director.

Dr Aref Al Nourani disclosed this at a seminar held by the hopsital’s medical accountability panel to brief more than 75 doctors, nurses and other staff members about its activities, including staff malpractices.

He said the panel probed these cases after receiving complaints from patients and their relatives about “negligence” by some doctors and nurses, adding that the all the doctors and nurses involved in those cases are being questioned.

He also said the hospital had filed a suit against a relative of a patient who had assaulted a nurse in its emergency department  and partly disabled her hand for allegedly neglecting his relative. The court recently sentenced him to six months in prison.
