Sharjah Municipality has ordered the immediate evacuation of more than 25 shops located at the old Al Ghuwair market in Rolla where a trader was stabbed to death on Saturday.

“All traders have vacated their stores. We were operating here since several months. The building was old and four other similar structures were pulled down by the municipality recently,” said Aneef Mohammed, one of the trader.

Meanwhile, the dead body of Mohammed Sharief, who was stabbed to death will be repatriated to his hometown in Kerala today (Tuesday).

According to Abdul Salam, one of his relatives said the burial would be held tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

“We are just waiting for some official papers from authorities here. The body will be flown this evening,” he said. Sharief leaves behind his wife and two children aged two and five. Around 15 men had allegedly ganged up to attack a trader selling electronic goods following a dispute on Saturday night. Four others who sustained stab injuries were also admitted to hospital. While two of the injured, Khalil and Anwar have been released, Irfan and Nuruddin are undergoing treatment at Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.

Salam who was instrumental in shifting Sharief to hospital on Saturday night, said the incident could have been avoided if neighbours could have been informed. “We were told that Sharief insisted on calling the cops. Instead if he had called out the neighbours we could have probably avoided the incident. There were about 15 to 20 men in the gang,” he said.

Sharjah Police have arrested 15 men following the incident.
