His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an administrative decision on making the Sharjah Media City (SMC) site, a free zone authority.
Under the decision No. 10 of 2016, the SMC site, its border and the area shown in the map, have been approved as the free zone authority.
This decision is effective from the date of its issuance, and shall be published in the official Gazette. All competent authorities have been instructed to carry out their respective functions.
Law on SRTA mandate
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a law on regulating the objectives and mandate of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA).
The Law No. 3 for 2016 states that the SRTA shall have a corporate body status and shall be authorised to exercise its legal rights to achieve its objectives.
According to the law, the SRTA shall be based in the city of Sharjah and may establish branches in the other areas of the emirates, subject to the approval of the Sharjah Executive Council.
The SRTA aims to provide land and water transport, as well as a modern network of public transport, equipped with the latest systems and technology.
The authority shall also manage road and relevant construction projects by conducting studies, plans, designs and maintenance works of roads, bridges and tunnels in a way that will conform to safety and security guidelines.
The SRTA shall have a chairman, who will be assisted by a sufficient number of employees and experts.
The law shall be effective from the date of issuance and shall be published in the official Gazette.
