Sharjah road works on New Year's eve
Al Intifada Street in Sharjah will remain closed for the period of three days, starting on New Year's eve.
From Wednesday December 31, 2014 until Sunday, January, 3, 2015, Al Intifada Street will remain closed for the public, announced Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Sharjah.
The street connects between Al Khan Street and Al Corniche Street in Al Majaz 1 and 2.
The closure will take place to allow for the next stage of maintenance work along a 590 meter strip on two lanes. However, complete closure of the road is required.
Maintenance work involves the addition of additional new service lane and an additional pedestrian crossing conform the highest standards and specifications, as well as the re-asphalting of the road and painting of road marks.
Further, changes will be made in AL Majaz 3 regarding the direction of traffic. On Shahid Mohammad al Dura Street traffic will be allowed in one direction instead of two in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
Earlier the RTA completed maintenance works in other parts of Al Majaz area, such as on Omar Abu Risha Street as well as the first phase of the maintenance work on AL Intifada Street in effort to overcome the obstacles and difficulties in the area and improve the road network in the emirate, said the authority.
The RTA urged motorists and pedestrians to be cautious when approaching the area over the next couple of days.
