Sharjah World Music Festival to begin on Jan.15

The first ever Sharjah World Music Festival will kick off on Wednesday, January 15, at Sharjah’s Al Qasba area in collaboration with Furat Qaddouri Music Center.

Running from the 15th to the 18th of January, the Festival will feature award-winning musicians from several Arab and foreign countries, most notably well-known Iraqi musician and composer Naseer Shamma who will give the first concert.

The four-day music festival will include live performances by prominent musicians and composers from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Colombia, Japan, France and Pakistan who will play Oud, zither (Qanoun), Flamenco, Sitar and Jazz on two outdoor stages in Al Qasba’s block D and C, as well as the main show at the award-winning Masrah Al Qasba-Theatre.

The list of famous musicians includes Iraqi musician and Oud player Naseer Shamma, Sitar maestro Ashraf Sharif Khan, all-round performer Jahida Wehbe, Qanoun player Furat Qaddori, Flamenco guitarist Vicente Allende, Jordanian singer Macadi Nahhas, singer and player Alex El Cantante, singer Oxana Uncu, Syrian singer Amir Adam, violinist and pianist Haruka Horiiand, gypsy swing and acoustic jazz performer Alexandre Valls, as well as the European Fusion Band.

Highlighting the importance of the event, Furat Qaddouri, founder of Furat Qaddouri Music Center, said, “The Sharjah World music festival, organised for the first time by Al Qasba in association with Furat Qaddouri Music Center will be an outstanding musical event that will add to the emirate’s rich cultural portfolio, especially as Sharjah is continuously organising exhibitions and festivals dedicated to books, poetry, theatrical performances, cinema and fine arts throughout the year. The addition of a musical festival to Sharjah’s event calendar, will undoubtedly act as yet another exciting attraction for music fans and lovers who will be able to enjoy the daily live performances brought to them by an elite group of the world’s most important musicians and composers.

The daily performances are scheduled to take place between 6:00 and 7:00pm in Block C, and from 8:00 to 9:00pm in Block D, while the main show will begin at 8:30pm on the main stage at Masrah Al Qasba – Theatre daily throughout the four-day event.

Tickets for the shows on Masrah Al Qasba - Theatre are available at Al Qasba Information Desk, located next to the Etisalat-Eye of the Emirates Wheel, Al Qasba Kids Fun Zone counter, Virgin Megastores, or through Platinum List and Time Out Tickets. Silver tickets are available at Dh150, while the gold tickets are Dh200.

Visitors will also have the chance to browse the bustling Bazaar on Al Qasba’s walkways and treat themselves to a little something from the large collection of clothing and goods, inspired by traditional cultures. The Bazaar will feature a range of fashion jewellery, traditional costumes and accessories.
