Sheikh Hamdan meets Al Gheit to discuss Arab political, economic challenges

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, along with Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, met Ahmed Abu Al Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.

During the meeting, they discussed the overall situation in the Arab region in light of the political and economic developments in the past few years, and the role of the league in co-ordinating joint Arab efforts, aspirations to strengthen this role and discuss issues of common interest at regional and international levels.

This meeting was held on the sidelines of the Arab Media Forum, which was launched in Dubai on Monday.

The Crown Prince of Dubai expressed the UAE's appreciation for the role played by the Arab League in unifying positions and bringing together various viewpoints, finding common ground between brotherly countries to rise against challenges in their way, as well as standing up to the attempts being made to sabotage the security and stability of the region and divert it from the goals of development by igniting hatred through speeches and stoking tensions.

This requires an objective civilised conversation about pressing issues to find remedial solutions that will enable the region to overcome the current situations and develop clear perceptions about the future based on the foundation of utilisation of resources available in the region and employing them in a way that will guarantee progress and prosperity of the people.

Sheikh Hamdan demonstrated the UAE’s sustained efforts to establish peace and raise hopes of the people, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed the UAE’s commitment to support the noble goals being pursued by the Arab League, as well as to stand by the Arab efforts, in continuation of the course set by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Ahmed Abu Al Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, expressed his appreciation for the UAE and its wise leadership, stressing that the UAE is a model to be followed in the field of investing in the future and focussing on development, and he praised the great Emirati contributions to the Arab scene and those that exceeded the region’s borders to various parts of the world.

He stressed that the Emirati role is considered an important foundation for joint Arab work, with what the Arab people has contributed to this work of hope to overcome all the resulting difficulties from many years of conflicts and struggles that reached numerous regions of the Arab world.

Abu Al Gheit praised the balanced Emirati policy that gained the appreciation and support of the world’s people, while a substantial number are present on the UAE’s land, which provided for them the room to live and work without bias.

He highlighted that the Emirati model confirms the Arab person’s ability to revive the Arab dream based on the qualities of region’s countries that guarantee their achievement of the highest levels of advancement through dialogue, adding that it is possible to overcome all the challenges that it faces, most notably terrorism, which demands unified Arab work starting from education, to remove misleading thought from its roots and protect children and youth from misleading messages.

He expressed his appreciation at holding the Arab Media Forum in Dubai this year, which would discuss one of the most important issues that is closely related to Arab reality; that is establishing a civilised dialogue and discovering new horizons to bridge distances, whether among the Arabs or the world.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation; Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of National Media Council; Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairwoman of Media Zone Authority-Abu Dhabi; Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO and Chairman of Ports; Customs and Free Zone Corporation, and Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, the Managing Director the CEO for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
