Sheikh Zayed Road diversions: Pockets of traffic near exits

Published

As the afternoon rush hour hit its peak today (Sunday), pockets of traffic were reported near the exits of the Sheikh Zayed Road diversions, as was the case also for the entry on to the highway from Umm Amara Street.

Cars were moving slowly at the Umm Amara Roundabout, creating a bottleneck for those commuters exiting Al Safa’s internal roads, with cars stretching towards Al Mazaya Centre, as well as the interlinking Umm Amara Street, between Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.

While the Roads and Transport Authority continues to work in the area, along with several internal road closures, the situation appeared worse when the barriers marking the exit on to Sheikh Zayed Road narrow the lanes down from two to a single lane turn off onto the highway.

The service road that connects to Emarat Atrium remains closed to regular traffic as construction work continues there.

Further down, those attempting to take Al Hadiqa Street exit will find congestion after the bridge, with the turn off at Al Safa Park in slow moving gridlock.

The reverse direction, connecting Al Hadiqa to Sheikh Zayed Road is facing a similar problem.

The Union Co-op junction is slow moving as well, while things do clear up once you cross Al Safa Park and head further down on Al Wasl Road.

Sheikh Zayed Road itself is currently free moving, with business as usual on the track that has been diverted post the Business

Bay metro bridge until the second interchange.

Things however could appear sticky tomorrow (Monday) as several schools remain closed today (Sunday) due to the Islamic New Year holiday.

Further down on Al Wasl, the road seems relatively free of traffic incidents until one hit the Al Hadiqah Street turn off at Al Safa Park, where the RTA is putting new diversions in place.
