Police in Dhaid arrested six Asian construction workers on charges of burying an Indian colleague at the site without permission from the authorities after the victim suffocated to death by engine smoke while asleep.

The six told police they had decided to bury their colleague near the work site to avert prosecution since he was not sponsored by their company.

The prosecutor described their act as “an inhuman burial” and said they would be charged of burying a dead man without official permission and recruiting a worker who is not sponsored by their company.

Dhaid prosecutor Yehya Al Baloushi, quoted by the semi official Arabic language daily Alittihad, said police knew about the burial after another worker reported that he saw blood at the random grave. He said investigation showed the dead worker had absconded from his employer in 2008.

The six said they had found the victim dead in his room after the power generator went off at night while he was asleep. Forensic tests showed he died of asphyxia.
