Dubai Criminal Court sentenced the man who stole 80 watches worth Dh900,000 from his ex-employer's shop in Festival City to six months in jail. He will be deported after serving his sentence.

KBS, 26, who was sacked by his employer, returned to the shop on the night of July 27 and after switching off the security cameras made away with 80 watches from the display counter.

The security camera images showed him sporting a cap and walking suspiciously with a bag on his shoulders. Police traced him walking out of the premises and hiring a cab.

Later the investigating team tracked down the cab driver who testified that a person with the same description had hired his cab at about 10pm on the said date. The driver recollected asking the passenger why he had to wear a cap when he was sweating. To which, he replied that he was very comfortable wearing one.

The driver also told that the suspect introduced himself as Santosh, an Indian who worked in a hotel. He apparently wanted to be dropped off at the Post  Office first but later changed his mind and got off at Lulu Centre.

KBS confessed to the crime. He told the police that he had a copy of the back door of the shop, which he used to get in. He hid the watches under a tree in Heritage Village in Al Shindagha area, which has been retrieved, policeman Ali Juma testified.
