Slaughter safely during Eid Al Adha: Beware of cowboy butchers

Dubai Municipality has urged the public to comply with safety measures when it comes to sacrificial slaughter during Eid Al Adha.

The scarifier should get approval of authorised slaughterhouses prior to the slaughter and get the meat inspected to ensure safety and protect health. People should avoid employing door-to-door butchers whose tools may pose health problems to consumers, urged the municipality.

Ali Tahir Al Hammadi, Head of Abattoir Operations at Dubai Municipality, said the public should be aware of ways of safe sacrificial slaughter, the role of the veterinary doctor, and the dangers of slaughtering outside the designated abattoirs and depending on the services of roaming butchers.

The abattoirs section said to have completed preparations for Eid Al Adha in order to protect the public health ensuring safe sacrifice during the days of Eid Al Adha.

“The section will use the most advanced facilities and apply the best international practices in slaughtering the animals in line with our religious and traditional values,” Ahmed Al Shammari, Head of the Abattoir Section said.

Abattoir service charges are Dh15 to check and slaughter a small animal (sheep or goat); Dh30 for a calf, Dh40 to Dh45 for a cow; and Dh60 to Dh65 for a camel. The price includes vet inspections, skinning and cutting the meat into four parts.

The slaughtering time starts after Eid prayer, and extends to the last days of Al Tashreeq for a total of 4 days.

“So, there is no need to rush to slaughter on the first day of Eid,” added Al Hammadi.
