Abu Dhabi Police have launched a new service to send texts to drivers on their mobile phones to alert them on accumulating black points as a result of road offences so they can avert having their driving licences taken off them.

Motorists getting such alerts can join traffic rehabilitation courses that will allow them to reduce the maximum black point level which entails seizure of their licences, the Arabic language daily 'Al Khaleej' said.

“This service has been launched by the community services section at the Abu Dhabi traffic police and it is intended to alert drivers about their black points so they can avoid having their licences withdrawn,” the paper said, quoting Lt Colonel Saif Al Khaily, the section’s director.

He said drivers accumulating 24 black points can contact the section at (02- 5027235 or 02-5027122) to register in the rehabilitation courses.

“These courses target drivers who exceed 24 black points three times or those who want to reduce their black points when they reach eight points.”
