Survey of Abu Dhabi schools launched

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) called upon students of Abu Dhabi schools and their parents to participate in the online satisfaction survey posted recently through Adec’s website to obtain their feedback on the quality of educational in Abu Dhabi schools.

The survey is divided into two parts. The first part targets parents of all public and private school students across the emirate while the second part targets Grade 5 to Grade 12 public school students.

Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Adec’s director general, said that surveys are an important means to obtain feedback of parents and students on education and help identify the performance of each school in order to improve the quality of education in Abu Dhabi schools.

“Survey results will be used to promote the educational process in accordance with the needs of Abu Dhabi emirate in line with the Abu Dhabi government’s policy agenda and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. Feedback will also help create a national workforce in scientific and technology related disciplines which require our schools to promote a learning environment that fosters innovation and academic excellence,” said Dr. Al Khaili.

Dr. Masood Badri, executive director of Research and Planning Office at Adec, emphasised the importance of surveys and questionnaires to be filled out by parents and students to help collect feedback from the main stakeholders in the educational sector and to measure the quality of educational services provided by schools.

"Feedback will be used to make more informed decisions while developing and improving school programs regularly," said Dr. Badri, who pointed out that parents as well as students are encouraged to provide their inputs and views which play a crucial role in identifying the important areas for school improvement.

Dr. Badri pointed out that the questionnaire targeting students  aims  to identify their views and the degree of their satisfaction, the quality of services provided, areas of improvement, school environment and level of communication between parents and schools, which will help Adec develop appropriate programs, plans and initiatives.

The questionnaire for parents focuses on teaching, school improvement, means of communication with school facilities and learning environment, school performance, quality of pedagogy school leadership and teaching staff.

The questionnaire, which is currently available via Adec website, can be completed in about 15 minutes. Adec had provided students and parents with a unique username and password to participate in the survey. Adec has said it will ensure confidentiality for all answers and feedback will be used in promoting school improvement framework in the next phase.

Adec launched the first parent’s satisfaction survey in 2009/2010, with 700 participants while 50,000 parents have participated in the 2011/2012 survey.
