The Dubai Criminal Court, which is hearing a case of two Bangladeshi nationals accused of possessing 34.31 grams of marijuana for trade purpose, has assigned them a defence lawyer.

On April 27, a tip off was received by the Anti-Drugs Department about a Bangladesh national who was selling drugs.

The Bangladeshi national was to accept Dh2,000 from the police informer and it was agreed that a second person, another Bangladeshi national, will supply him with the drugs.

In co-ordination with the police, the informer met the first Bangladeshi national at Al Muteena near Marco Polo Hotel and then the man left the place and met another Bangladeshi national at about 1km away from whom he took a blue pouch, Abbas Mohammed, policeman, testified before the prosecution.

Major Mohammed Hamid Saqr testified that MAK, 33, electrician, was arrested. Mohammed Abdullah Khalfan, policeman, testified that he was assigned to observe the other Bangladeshi national, MAT, 25, jobless, who was held after the arrest of the first man.

The two accused denied the accusation and told the jury that they want a defence lawyer. The court assigned a lawyer to defend them in the next hearing scheduled on October 7.
