An Abu Dhabi court sentenced a man from another Gulf country to three years in prison after he was convicted of swindling Dh1 million from a local government department, prompting the defendant to swear at the judge after hearing the verdict.

The unnamed man had told court he had returned the stolen money to the department but the judge decided that the defendant had an intention to commit a crime by returning the funds only when he was exposed by his employers.

“The defendant did not like the sentence as he started to swear at the judge and shout in court,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.
