An Indian taxi driver’s murder in the UAE has sent shock waves among his colleagues and taxi drivers in Fujairah.

K Suryanarayana Raju, 30, was found brutally murdered by unknown assailants, who tied him up with a seat belt and stabbed him several times, before fleeing.

According to sources, the driver’s body was found abandoned behind a factory in Farooj Al Wadi, about 15 kms away from the city.

“Some drivers saw him waiting for customers near Lulu supermarket that afternoon,” said one driver on condition of anonymity.

“We are also being told that a seat belt was used to tie him up before he was killed. We are all worried. We still do not know who committed the murder and for what purpose. I am taking special precautions while taking in passengers,” said one of the taxi drivers.

Fujairah police, meanwhile, have launched a massive manhunt in search of the assailants.

Raju who is from Sakhelatepalli town in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh had been employed with the Fujairah Transport Corporation and had joined the company only recently.

“He was married only recently and his family members have been informed about his death,” said another taxi driver.

Meanwhile, a police inspector from Sakhelatepalli told ‘Emirates24|7’ that the information has been brought to the notice of the local police station.

“We were informed about the incident. We are hoping that the police in the UAE will get hold of the culprits soon,” said Bhanu Prasad, Sub Inspector
at Sakhelatepalli Police Station.
