A Jordanian woman accused an Iraqi teacher at a private school in Sharjah of using what she described as unjustified violence against her son after class hours, leaving bruises and scratches on his neck.
The woman said the teacher summoned her 14-year-old son Mohammed, rebuked him then punched him and tried to strangle him by grabbing his neck, according to a local newspaper.
But the physical education teacher Jassim Ali denied the charges, saying he only tried to calm Mohammed down when he came to his room in a state of what he described as “abnormal state of agitation.”
“The mother said she had reported the incident to the police, who referred it to the education authorities for investigation…she said she is still awaiting action by the education authorities against the teacher,” Emarat Alyoum Arabic language daily said.
It quoted the woman as saying she had obtained a medical report from Kuwait hospital in Sharjah showing Mohammed had been “subject to severe beating.”
A picture published by the paper showed bruises covering a boy’s neck but it did not make clear if it was for Mohammed.
