Teen's gun shots at RAK wedding 'kills' Emirati guest

Ras Al Khaimah Police has arrested a teenager, who accidently fired shots during a wedding ceremony, which led to the death of  an Emirati  in Wadi Qudah area on Friday.

Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi , Director-General of Police Operations, said, within a few hours police officials nabbed the suspect – a 16-year-old boy.

According to initial investigations, one of the well-wishers, who was holding a gun in his hand, tumbled and fell down while walking at the venue. In the process, he unintentionally fired two shots.

Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit a guest causing severe bleeding. Forensic reports confirm he succumbed to his injuries.

The other shot hit a wall, escaping the crowd.

Brigadier Hadidi said the teen had taken his father’s automatic weapon to celebrate the wedding.

He admitted to police that he accidently fired the shots during his fall.

Legal action has been proceeded against the teenager.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Hadidi said several such instances of wedding celebrations turning into tragedies has been recorded in the past because of use of weapons.

Celebratory gun shots are banned and carrying weapons without licence is a criminal act which can end up in jail terms, he explained.

Brigadier Hadidi urged the public to refrain from using weapons and guns during celebrations and to respect the safety of others.
