There is a new National ID rule for expat kids under 15

Expatriate children under the age of 15 whose visas expire before December 31 this year are excluded from the registration grace period, provided they register when renewing their visas before the end of the year, Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has revealed.

Eida has urged guardians of children under 15, both Emiratis and expatriates, whose expiry date of their visas ends after December 31, to register the minors for the ID before October 1 to avoid late fees.

This decision came as part of Eida’s move to take into account the circumstances of families whose children’s visas will expire in this period to avoid paying the late fees twice.

Eida said that the passport of the child is a key requirement to register for the ID card.

Children under 15 will not be allowed to register if they don’t have their own passport and are on their parents’ passport.

A valid passport or Family Book is required for Emirati children and an original passport and residence visa are required for the expatriate children besides a personal photo (4.5x3.5) with a white background to register for the ID card.

Children under 15 do not need to go to the registration centres as their guardians can fill in the application at any typing centre.
