Three-day weekend announced for public, private sectors; details here

The UAE has announced October 2 will be a holiday for the public and private sectors, marking the occasion of the Islamic New Year.

Sunday will mark 1438 Hijri with the federal ministries and departments remaining closed on the day.

Official duty will resume on Monday, October 3, according to a circular issued by Dr Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has also declared Sunday, October 2, 2016 an official paid holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE to celebrate the coming Islamic New Year.

Saqr Ghobash, the minister, made the announcement following provisions of Article 74 of the Federal Law No 8 of 1980 concerning labour relations and its amendments.

For UAE residents, the added holiday will allow several to enjoy a three-day weekend.

Al Owais and Ghobash conveyed their sincerest greetings and blessings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and their Highnesses, the Supreme Council Members and the Rulers of the Emirates, as well as citizens and residents on this holy occasion.
