Three months for stealing BB
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced two Nepalis to three months in jail for stealing and possessing a stolen BlackBerry.
Salim Mubarak, 29, a lieutenant in the Armed Forces, had forgotten his BlackBerry in an Emirates aircraft, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
He was returning to UAE from India on Emirates and had put his BlackBerry in the pocket in front of his seat and forgot to take it before leaving the plane.
“On my way home I remembered that I had forgotten to take the mobile phone from the seat pocket. I called my number twice but no one answered. In the third attempt someone has put off the call. I realised that someone may have stolen it. I called up Emirates and but the airline did not have my phone in their lost and found department,” he testified.
Investigating the complaint, police found out that SL, 22, a Nepali cleaner, had stolen the mobile phone which he found while cleaning the plane.He sold it to his colleague and compatriot, BBK, 32, for Dh500 and a Nokia C3, Corporal Obaid Humaid testified.
The two, who admitted to the accusation before the court, were ordered to be deportated after serving their jail term.
